Doncaster Woodturning Club
If you are an experienced wood turner, or are new to the craft or just fancy having a go and live in or around Doncaster you have come to the right place!
We are a small, growing band of people, just like you, who have found enjoyment and the occasional small profit from shaping wood on a lathe. Projects range from boxes, bowls and platters, candle holders of all sorts of shapes and sizes, model steam engines and artistic pieces which include wood inlays, piercing and colour. Pieces both useful and purely decorative, like the one above!
Members come from a wide range of backgrounds, though most have a practical nature and, inevitably, many are retired. They all love working with wood in one way and another.
We meet at Finningley Village Hall twice a month. On the second Monday we have a Skills Night when members share skills, experience and ideas with a practical session; there are several lathes tin use – ideal for people new to turning!
On the last Monday of the month a professional or a club member will demonstrate making one or more pieces, taking questions as they go. There is also an opportunity to socialise over a cup of tea and a biscuit. Both sessions start at 6.30pm and last till just after 9pm.
There is the occasional trip, usually on a weekday, to a place of ‘woody’ interest (like sawmills, chainsaw carver, small manufacturers of equipment and materials, and shows). There is usually a pub lunch as well and often the chance of a bit of retail therapy!
